Gary
Carter is one of the greatest catchers in Major League Baseball
history. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003. He is
also an inductee into the New York Mets Hall of Fame, the Canadian Baseball
Hall of Fame, and the Montreal Expos Hall of Fame. His uniform #8 was
retired by the Expos. Over the course of his outstanding 19 year career
with the Expos, Mets, Giants and Dodgers, Gary hit 324 home runs while
driving in 1,225 (he led the National League in RBI in 1984). He is sixth
all-time in home runs by a catcher. He had 2,092 career hits and scored
1,025 runs. Carter was an 11-time All Star, and was selected Most Valuable
Player of the All-Star Game in 1981 and 1984. He won three Gold Gloves
and five Silver Slugger Awards. Gary was a key member of the Mets World
Championship team in 1986, hitting 24 home runs while knocking in 106.
He will forever be remembered as the man who started the Mets two-out
rally that won Game 6 of the World Series against the Red Sox in one of
the most famous games in baseball history. He also hit two home runs in
Game 4 of the ’86 Series at Fenway Park.
